When I first heard of the term black rage I didn’t like it. It made me think of the stereotype of the angry black man or an angry black woman. I refused to admit that I had it in me because I couldn’t admit how much racial tension impacted my life. It was something I had been conditioned to think was normal. On another hand, I felt like I was weak for giving in to those feelings. I mean at least I can walk in the front door now is what I thought to myself. As I have grown and matured I realize that it is ok to feel. The thing about this black rage that I now admit I feel, is it is hard to beat. You are doing ok and then boom a dead black person in your timeline...black rage. You are walking down the street when the lady clutches her purse or grabs her child...black rage. I just don’t wanna be “woke brother” and see racism around every corner. The only problem is the more I look into the history of the world and especially America….Black Rage!
Life is about growth and 2019 was definitely a year of learning for me. I let things get in my way and didn't release a single song last year. I barely wrote any new songs until the end of the year. This season of my life is about handling business and my first single for 2020 title is fitting. This season of my life is about taking action and going after everything God has for me.
In November I quit my job as a tv producer to take on music full time. I finally realized that my purpose in life is to inspire others to change their narrative the way I did. I plan to do that through my music. If I can go from a high school drop out to an Emmy nominated tv producer anyone with a dream can capture theirs.
If you are in a place where failure is not an option and you refuse to take no for an answer then this single is for you. It is time to get focused, block all negativity and handle your mother effing business...aye aye!
handle your business
New Strange Fruit
Released July 2018
New Strange Fruit isn't the project I wanted to make but I think it is the project I needed to make. There was a lot going on personally, with America and the world at the time. When I wrote the first song I wanted to do something very different from anything I had done before.
Let Us Pray EP
Released August 2017
In recent years Charlottesville, VA has become synonymous with the good ole boy American way of life. Before all that I met a young hi ho producer with a love for J Dilla and Dungeons & Dragons. This 5 track EP is a collaboration of two seemingly different style to bring you some head nodding boom ba hip hip.
